ABCO Marine Ltd were contracted by FARRANS as specialist marine contractor on the Heysham Outfall Repairs Project for EDF Energy, we mobilised the specialist marine plant and personnel in support of the piling activities for the delivery of the project.
The project was supported from the nearby port of Heysham, with all materials delivered quayside. ABCO utilised T44 Transfer Barge, handling the delivery of the piles and associated construction materials to the C57 Jack Up Barge to ensure maximum productivity on site.
The marine activities were completed ahead of the contracted program, all achieved and driven by the project team, working a 24hour, 7 day week program. With high tides utilised for barge repositioning and material deliveries. Low Water operations included the work to remove the rock armour, in support the piling and the profiling of the rock armour bund on completion of the same.
460m x 15m Sheet piled outfall for the Heysham Power plant. Repairs were required at various location over the entire length of the installation, Ch-0+000 to the outlet point at Ch0+460, with 550lin/m of repair sheet piling completed.
Mobilised specialist marine plant including the C57 Jack-Up Barge c/w piling spread, T44 Transfer Barge, The Noo Pushy Tug and Crew Transfer Vessel.
Mobilised T44 Transfer Barge, utilised for marine material transfer of all sheet piles, concrete and 12t Excavator to site. With excavator used in low tidal periods to pull back existing rock armour to facilitate driving of new pile lengths.
Tug and shallow drafted multicat support vessels to support the marine activities, with 10m tidal range all barge and transfer barge positioning operations had to be controlled and planned to ensure safe operations.
Works completed ahead of programme, to budget and with zero incidents for the project.
